PETROLEUM GEOLOGY, PRODUCTION HISTORY, AND BUSINESS
LOGISTICS OF THE TEN PROVINCES OPEN FOR JOINT EXPLORATION CONTRACTS
BACKGROUND
(excerpted from China Dally, 24 April 1980)
In a bid to speed up exploration of China's oil and
gas reserves, foreign oil companies will be allowed to cooperate
In exploration and development In nine provinces and one autonomous
region, the Ministry of Petroleum Industry announced yesterday.
A total of 1.83 million square kilometers In Jiangsu,
Anhul, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, Fujian, Guangdong, Guizhou and
Yunnan provinces and Guangxl Zhuang Autonomous Region are open for
cooperation with foreign oil companies, a senior official of the
ministry told China Dally In an exclusive Interview.
Although there are a few small oil and gas fields
In these areas, exploration techniques In China are not sufficiently
advanced to tap the Immense potential of the vast areas which have
yet to be exploited.
The newly-opened areas are highly developed In Industry
and agriculture and there Is a great demand for oil and gas.
The latest decision Is one of the most Important made
by the State Council since China opened Its continental shelf for
offshore oil exploration with foreign oil companies a few years
ago, the official said.
"China will adopt flexible policies In order
to encourage foreign oil companies to join us In the exploration
and development of Inland oil and gas fields," the official
said.
NEED FOR DATA
Companies interested In pursuing this new International
opportunity must become acquainted with both the technical, as well
as the business aspects of exploring and producing petroleum in
China. Those basins must be Identified which most closely resemble
our own "backyard" or other familiar oil patches. The
ultimate recovery potential must also be estimated In order to make
a prudent decision with regard to an entree Into this new Chinese
play.
Fortunately, and In contrast to the superexpensive
offshore exploration concessions, this new onshore play Is open
to 11 oil companies, small or large, however, a company must first
identify the area where It would be most comfortable and potentially
successful. In short, a reconnaissance description of the general
geology Is now needed with references and suggestions of models
from known producing areas.
In addition, all available data on shows and existing
production must be reviewed. Finally, the legal, tax, market, foreign
exchange, and operating logistics of working today In China must
be absorbed by any oilman who would like to explore and produce
In China.
THE SOLUTION
The new report "Petroleum Exploration Onshore
In South China" provides exhaustive answers to all these questions.
Should you explore for oil In China? Read this report and in a very
short time, you will recognize prospective areas awaiting your expertise
and oil-finding technology.
China needs western know-how towards Increasing her
reserves and productivity. The national goal Is to double the output
over only a decade! The offshore exploration has not met with much
success yet, and the giant basins In the Xinjiang Province cannot
be explored and developed until well Into the 21st century. Therefore,
China needs the western oilman as a partner to explore and produce
the many small and medium-sized marine basins onshore In South China.
In addition to geology and production data, the report
also provides detailed Information about the governmental organizations,
and the availabillty of services and products needed for exploration
as well as for production. The most recent data is Included about
Chinese corporations and agencies seeking partners for exploration.
This report Is an Invaluable and cost-efficient solution to an Initial
look at this exciting opportunity.
