Ed Moritz joined Gustavson Associates in September 1989 and became President of the firm in August 2007. He has been involved in and personally conducted numerous mineral and petroleum fair market value appraisals, reserve and economic studies. These studies involved mineral and petroleum properties in all major producing regions in the U.S. He is currently the Deputy Project Manager for a petroleum exploration project in Afghanistan, which is sponsored by the United Nations Development Program. This project will seek to promote investment in the petroleum sector in the producing areas of Northern Afghanistan.

Field experience in coalbed methane was gained while on assignment in the San Juan Basin. This work involved providing wellsite geological services to independent oil and gas companies active in drilling and developing coalbed methane resources from the Fruitland Formation. Detailed analysis and correlation of individual coal seams was performed at the wellsite through analysis and preservation of cuttings and cores recovered during drilling operations. Also performed was the desorption testing of coalbeds at the wellsite and the laboratory where cuttings and cores from coalbeds were placed in special canisters for measuring gas desorption rates.
